What is the difference between a dentist and a pediatric dentist?

Pediatric dentists are dentists who choose to focus their practice on providing dental care for children, similar to how pediatricians are doctors who specialize in treating children. How often should children see the dentist?

When should children start seeing a dentist?

Around the age of 12 months, or within six months of the eruption of their first tooth, your child should begin visiting the dentist for routine preventive care. This is the recommendation of the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, as well as what our dentists recommend.

Should I sedate my child for dental work?

We provide safe, mild forms of pediatric dental sedation to patients who require help relaxing during dental procedures. Please let us know ahead of time if you have any concerns regarding your child's ability to tolerate an upcoming procedure so we can discuss sedation options with you.

What age should kids get braces?

By the age of seven, children should have a first visit with an orthodontist. Braces are unlikely to be required at this age, however early orthodontic treatment, such as space maintainers, habit appliances, or palate expanders, may be recommended. These treatments encourage healthy jaw growth and prevent future orthodontic issues.
